Help Stop Parental-child Abduction Now
More than 13,000 children in the US alone go missing each year due to parental child abduction which is the number one cause for child abductions in the United States. This unimaginable heartbreak, rooted in family conflicts and custody battles, shatters lives and tears families apart.
Helpspan.org (Help Stop Parental-child Abduction Now) stands firmly against this injustice. Founded in 2005 after the abduction of 6-year-old Ian Castillo, we've been fighting tirelessly to make a safe haven for children in each state.

  What we do:

  • Passing enforceable anti-parental child abduction laws: Since 2008, we've helped enact vital legislation in eight states, protecting children from birth until age 18 / or majority per state law. These laws ensure all missing children, including runaways in danger, are reported and eligible to be included in the Missing Person Clearinghouse in which law enforcement issues Amber Alerts.
  • Holding abductors accountable: Our laws include penalties for abductors and their accomplices, deterring this harmful act and ensuring justice.
  • Protecting children from harm: In some states, our laws recognize Parental Alienation Syndrome and streamline custody proceedings, ultimately prioritizing child safety and well-being.
  • Our legislation recognizes un-wed parental rights and bypasses the time frame of paternity establishment with the use of the birth certificate and/or undisputed paternity claims.

The emotional and financial consequences of parental abduction are devastating and long-lasting. Children suffer psychological trauma, and in some cases, physical abuse. Families endure years of uncertainty and financial strain. This must stop.

Join us in making every state utilize this parental child abduction legislation to save our children. Your support can help us achieve our goal: enacting anti-parental child abduction legislation nationwide. Together, we can create a world where every child has the right to feel safe and loved, with access to both parents and a secure future.
